Gates Not Running

Bill Gates continues to deny rumors that he will enter the 2008 race for President. Earlier hints that New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg might run prompted speculation that Gates would enter the race.

Bloomberg was considered a likely candidate because of his success and popularity as mayor, and it was suggested he was going to run an independent candidacy similar to Ross Perot. Bloomberg has consistently indicated he will not run for President.

Several sources suggested Gates was considering a run. His positive name recognition has increased dramatically due to the substantial charitable efforts of the foundation created by him and his wife Melinda. As the world's wealthiest man, the cost of a presidential campaign would be trivial to him.

The Microsoft founder and chairman stated today that the presidency does not interest him much, as he has far more control over the world through his dominance of computer desktops than he could ever have in the White House, and this way he doesn't have to deal with "that bitch from Arkansas, New York, or wherever the hell she's really from."
