The 115 Cardinals who selected Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Argentina to be the next pope announced today that actor Morgan Freeman was their second choice even though Freeman isn't a Catholic.
"Si, Si, that's true," said Italian Cardinal Arsenio DeHalla, when reporters asked about Freeman's lack of membership in the church. "But who would make a better pope than God?" he replied, apparently referring to Freeman's roles playing the part of God in two Hollywood movies.
"In this challenging time, I think Morgan Freeman could have restored the church to greatness," the Cardinal said. "After all, look at all the good press penguins got after he narrated March of the Penguins.
