The USA may be less that 100 years away from having it's first white president according to civil rights campaigner George W Bush.

As I stood with Bush overlooking The Mall in Washington yesterday, it was evident that change was indeed in the air. White men (and even some women), who would have been afraid to attend such a celebration only a number of years ago, seemed bouyed by the recent presidential campaign of South Bronx activist Mitt Romney.

In a scene that would hardly have been dreamed of only 4 years ago, some white folk were allowed share buses with black folk, but only if they sat at the front where they could be seen at all times.

'Rights For Whites' campaigner, Bill Clinton meanwhile seemed a little more sceptical. "Change sho' is slow, boy. Them folk 'aint eva gonna give up no land and no nothin' long as they don't never need to, but no never mind, we struggle on, Hilary and me, long as the good Looowd help us" grumbled Clinton, as he sat back on his porch swing and spat another piece of tobacco into the over-flowing bucket.

It's easy to see why the Clintons are less than fully enthusiastic. As the Obamas walked proudly through the gates of the White House yesterday the Clintons were packing up their few tatty belongings into their 1972 pick-up truck and heading back to Alabama with less that a couple of nickels and a bottle of Hennessy between them but they now also possessed something they dared to dream of before ; hope. And as afternoon turned to dusk and dusk turned to night they let the light of hope lead the way.

It seemed to shine a little brighter yesterday, not just on the streets of Washington, but in the slums of The Hamptons and the gutters of Bell-air.

Make Paul O' Mahony's day - give this story five thumbs-up (there's no need to register, the thumbs are just down there!)

The story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
