image for Concerned, Fed Up Citizens Start Campaign Against Mass Media
Sometimes the media goes too far

A neighborhood has banded together in retaliation against the media take over of their street. The group of citizens calling themselves, "Neighbors Against Mass Media" N.A.M.M., band together with signs that can't be broadcast on the news live shots, get in the background and make it impossible for newscasters to do a report from their location.

Neighborhoods have long complained that the media is merciless in it's pursuit of a titillating sound bite in the wake of horrendous or spectacular crimes.

John Leao the organizer of the group said, "I've never been exposed to the impact the media has on a neighborhood when something really bad happens. They never take into consideration the feelings of friends or family of the victim of a crime".

The media frenzy stems from a murder victim's head, hands and feet being discovered by a dog at the foot of the world famous Hollywood sign. Apparently the victim lived in a building down the street from Mr Leao.

Leao went on to say, "look I'm not unrealistic I understand them being there for a couple of days but this has been a week and there is nothing to see and there have been no advancements in the case that would warrent all this attention. They are just relentless".

Neighbors are complaining that the reporters are harassing people for scoops that just are not there. People inside the building where the victim lived say media types sneek in and bang on his door trying to get the roommate of the victim to answer.

It's just heartless and inconsiderate said one woman, who wished to remain anonymous, walking her dog. "They don't care if someone was a friend or acquaintance or maybe liked the guy or cared about him. That's why we've banded together against the media".

People who live in the building and surrounding apartments watch the media and every time they try to do a pre recorded or live report run out and totally disrupt the report to the degree it's totally useless to the news crews.

At times the friction between the news crews and the neighbors has become so heated it's almost broken into violence. It seems the media does not like being harassed.

"I think this is what all neighborhoods should do when confronted by this onslaught from these bottom feeders", said Su Collins one long time resident.

N.A.M.M. is in the process of putting up a web site to tell people how to fight back when their area is attacked by an onslaught of media types and the situation goes beyond reason.
