image for University Fees "Policy Car Crash" Agrees Academic
Prof Lucid.

A leading academic yesterday attacked the Government's tuition fees policy as a "slow car crash."

Sir Peter Scott's comments came three weeks after controversial historian Ken Lucid [url target="_self"]http://www.thespoof.co.uk/news/spoof.cfm?headline=s1i96549">described the fees system as a "bloody fiasco."

In a speech at Nottingham, Sir Peter, who is professor of higher education studies at the University of London's Institute of Education, criticised the "slow car crash that the government's plans to reform higher education are turning into.

"So far nearly every university has decided to charge fees right at the top of the permitted range. What reasonable person expected a different outcome?"

Responding this morning, Prof Lucid, head of history at Maidenhead University said: "Good old Peter - three weeks behind me as usual, bless him!

"Mind you, his grammar's getting a bit wayward: 'turning into' - ending a sentence with a preposition? Tch.

"Still, it's good to know he's on board - at least he has the ear of the Daily Telegraph."
