image for Gherkin Architect was inspired by Cucumber
Original Cucumber Design not earthquake proof

Cucumber's are getting a lot of bad press lately given the e-coli scare in Germany. However, an unlikely voice has come to the defence of the under fire 'Cucumber'

Probably, the most recognisable building in London's Financial district, 30 St Mary Axe known affectionately as 'the Gherkin' was actually inspired by the Cucumber.

"Although the building now looks like a gerkin, the original inspiration was actually a cucumber, however, I had to make design compromises and over time the skyscraper took the shape of a gherkin"

"If the building was called the Cucumber Building I don't think it would have been as iconic a name as 'The Gherkin' It's funny how these things work out" - Norman Dontsueme, Skyscraper Architect

So ladies the next time you see a cucumber think of that mighty erection...on the London skyline.

Make Gabhan O'Buachalla's day - give this story five thumbs-up (there's no need to register, the thumbs are just down there!)

The story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
