Man charged over Topshop protest in Brighton

One man has been charged by police after a protest at Brighton's Topshop's store.

Sussex Police arrested 21 people over the demonstration on Saturday. One man has been cautioned and 18 other people have been released on bail.

The protest was one of a number at high street shops in cities across the UK in a campaign against tax avoidance. However, the man, named locally as loner Lee Mealone, said he was there for a different reason. He told the Spoof, "Basically someone needs to draw a line under the offensive clothes they sell."

Police counter his claims by saying, "We arrested him because he was annoying the customers. His statement, later retracted, was that he wanted to make people think he had a girlfriend by sitting outside the TopShop changing rooms tutting and playing with his phone."
