Dear Ma, In case the cops want to dig up Flood Street...

Glasgow - (Shackles): A letter from the convicted serial killer, smuggled out of Barlinnie Jail this weekend, has been intercepted by Spoof news sources.

The message was sent by Tobin to his secret birth mother in Chester Square, Belgravia.

It follows a BBC Crimebotch appeal for information about Tobin's period of missing time in the 1970s.

'Dear Ma', the missive begins, 'in case the cops start digging up the Flood Street patio...' - in what may be a startling reference to Number 19 where Margaret Thatcher lived between 1967 and 1986.

The killer's paranoia follows successful police excavations of a property at 50 Derry Irvine Drive, Margate where the the remains of missing schoolgirl Vicky Hamilton were found.

Subsequent excavations beneath Brighton seafront properties has yielded nothing despite intelligence that Tobin 'may have killed up to 48'.

This weekend's dramatic intercept renews speculation about Tobin's links to Chelsea.

In 1975 after beating Ted Heath to the leadership of the Tory Party Mrs T was famously snapped sweeping the front patio by paparazzi camped outside her Flood Street house.

A few hours later she held the first meeting of her shadow cabinet in the dining room above a now bricked-up cellar.

This once opened onto the paved courtyard at the front of the house where a magnolia grandiflora once bloomed.

The Yorkshire Ripper is 69.
