Emotional scenes here on the south coast tonight as news emerged that the local outlet of Threshers Wine Shop is to close early next month.
Local alkies made the sombre pilgrimage to the store to purchase Sunday's stock of beers wines and spirits, each one taking a moment for quiet reflection and contemplation of a future without a Threshers.
Threshers is one of a limited number of outlets in the area where beer can be purchased from the cold cabinet. Local beer drinkers are now faced with the alarming prospect of buying beer from supermarket shelves and having to refrigerate it prior to consumption.
Local alkies also mourned the demolition of the local pub, which was demolished to make way for a block of flats which were never built because of the recession.
It was quite a moving experience to see grown, grizzled men openly weeping as they swilled their Special Brew.
More as we get it.
