In its wisdom, the European Union have written some legislation which is forcing witches to file a flight plan before September 30th - a whole month before their favourite night, so that they can know where each and every individual crone will be any given time on Halloween.
A spokeswoman for the National Union of Witches Territories (NUWT), who did not want to be identified, said from her Wookey Hole headquarters that the new legislation would have a dramatic effect and the number of witches using broomsticks to fly by night will be seriously affected.
The old hag told In Seine News: "This is an absolute invasion of privacy because the identity of many women will have been compromised, indeed because many women hold prominent positions within the government it is going to be a massive embarrassment."
However, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is saying that in the interests of health and safety, it is an absolute necessity to have details of who will be flying around where and when. Their spokesman, Wing Commander Ivor Prang DFC (RAF retd) said; "We cannot have people flying around where they want without notifying us because there is a danger of collision with airliners full of passengers, then it would result in many, many deaths. Besides, on the form to report an air crash accident, you can tick the box for a bird-strike but there is no provision for a broom-strike."
