image for Spoof Writers Avoiding Contentious Issue Plummet Out Of Points Table

A few writers on the TheSpoof.com website were being punished this week for refusing to write articles about the subject that was dominating the famous satirical site's pages. The subject, which cannot be named without exploiting somebody's bad fortune, has reached saturation point on most pages on the site.

The few writers that have avoided the issue have seen their status on TheSpoof.com being reduced dramatically, and are now struggling to come up with ideas that can break through the story blockade.

However, as it became clear that only stories on this subject were now making the main headlines, some of these writers were being tempted to join in. Even writers from outside the UK, who had never previously heard of the subject concerned, have felt compelled to add their own stories just to compete in the feeding frenzy. As a result, the quality of stories has declined, with many themes being repeated and allegations of plagiarism made, as writers trample over each other for the attention of the public.

However, self-proclaimed ethical writers are now fighting back. A new coalition of TheSpoof.com contributors has been formed under the banner 'Writing About Something Else' to promote alternative stories and to offer support to other writers who are finding it hard to compete. They have also been involved in 'interventions' where they have tried to help writers who have been seduced by the fame and fortune that is on offer.

A spokesperson from the new alliance said: "We think that once the publicity surrounding this case has dissipated, many of the writers who have exploited it will feel somehow lessened by the experience."

Anyone who has been affected by the issues raised in this story can contact Writing About Something Else using the information shown on my writer's profile.
