image for Youngest ever Rally Champion
Piper's 'borrowed' Mercedes

Dwayne Piper has become the world's youngest rally champion aged just thirteen.

The youngster from Salford, near Manchester came first in the Welsh leg of the RAC Rally, a full ten seconds ahead of his nearest rival.

"It was immense," said Piper. "The course was just like Colin McRae's Rally Championship on the X-Box 360."

Piper had started driving two years earlier, around the housing estates of Salford. "You have to be good around there, or the filth catch you to easy, like," Pipe confessed. Piper admitted that his father, Peter, aged 25, had given him the idea of entering the World Rally championship. "I was racing him around the Mancunian Way when the sky-eyes picked us up and we had to head cross country. He saw the way I went through Didsbury Wood, and he told me I could do Colin McRae for real, if I wanted."

RAC co-ordinator Carl Jack, said: "We were dubious at first, but he showed us on his Playstation Portable how good he was, and we thought we'd let him have a go. We figured it was his car, though obviously we later realised it wasn't."

Piper walked away with £250,000 prize money for his record-breaking win. When asked what he was going to spend his winnings on, he surprised a lot of people.

"I'm going to buy some bling for my Debi from Elizabeth Duke, aint, I? She'll be fourteen next week. If I've got any cash left, I'll buy some toys and crap for our baby boy."
