Thomas Havitch in 2004, shortly before robbing everyone in the vicinity senseless.

In what they are calling "Operation Find the Lyrical Gangsters," Scotland Yard yesterday launched an intensive search to locate four convicted criminals who crooned their way out of heavily guarded Belmarsh high security prison.

Dennis Parker, Thomas Havitch, Dwayne Michaels and Douglas McAlister managed to flee the confines of the renowned British slammer by performing beautiful renditions of world famous songs like Sinatra's "My Way" and Elvis Presley's "Suspicious Minds."

Prison guard, Jonas Wood, was doing the rounds at night to make sure all inmates were in their cells when the jailbirds' enchanted performance of R. Kelly's "Better Be Careful" left him awestruck.

"The rendition was so beautiful and entrancing, I didn't have the slightest inclination when the words 'Wait a minute/Let me finish' were replaced with 'Open the door/Step aside'," said Wood.

The convicts who were doing 28 years at Her Majesty's service for vocalised harmonious robbery used their hypnotic "heavenly voices" to keep guards and other inmates spellbound as they made their getaway.

Alevi Yilmitch, 65, a Chelsea jeweller, only realised her shop had been cleaned out when the bandits' heart warming delivery of Sam Cooke's "Wonderful World" stopped. "If I remember clearly, those boys sang like nightingales as they stashed away goods totalling £250,000," said Yilmitch.

Police have been issued with earplugs and members of the public warned not to approach the "melodious thugs" as they may be armed with a guitar, drum and even a saxophone, and very dangerous.
