An American multi-millionaire has snubbed relatives after giving the largest chunk of her wealth to her pet dog in her will.
Real estate mogul Leona Helmsley's beloved Yorkshire Terrier, called Kaftan, received around £6m in a trust fund.
But two of her four grandchildren from late son Jay Panzirer will not get a cent from the luxury hotelier's billion dollar empire.
Craig and Meegan Panzirer have been left in the doghouse, Helmsley wrote in her will, "for reasons that are known to them".
Speaking from a trailer park in West Virginia a remarkably composed Jay told our American correspondent Peter Musgrove,
"If this is my grandmother's wishes then so be it. To be honest we never did see eye to eye politically. I would often criticise a Capitalist system that allowed people like her to amass such a personal fortune whilst people in other parts of the world would often starve to death. Please think for one minute how a man in the Third world feels when he sees people like my grandma spending thousands and thousands of dollars on their "dogs" birthday parties when they can't even afford to feed their own children. Let us be honest with ourselves for one moment, it's totally obscene.... No wonder some of them turn to suicide bombing! Marx was right, capitalism will eat itself."
