image for 2012 Olympics: Tube Workers Reject Pay Offer - Binmen Demand Deal

Following the news that London's Tube workers have rejected the offer of a £500 bonus for turning up for work during the Olympics, another union is demanding extra pay.

Explaining that his members' position wasn't at all bloody-minded or grasping, RMT general secretary Bob Crow said: "It is well-documented that transport will be the biggest logistical challenge throughout the Olympics period.

"All we are calling for is a fair deal for all the staff involved in delivering the colossal transport challenge that we will be facing this summer and the negotiations to achieve that are ongoing."

But now the National Union of Refuse Collectors and Recycling Operatives (NURCRO) is demanding parity with the rail workers.

"The rail men reckon their job is vital during the games... what about ours?" Said NURCRO chairman, Vansittart Lumbago.

"The volume of domestic rubbish is set to increase 12-fold during the games and my members will be expected to turn up for work as normal and clear it up.

"Extra pizza packaging, KFC tubs, beer cans, bottles - it all adds up. If the rail staff deserve extra for just doing their job, so do we."

"And us," added National Association of School Lollipop Men & Women convener, Posy Gizzard.

"Don't forget us," said Worthing Beach Cleaners' leader Hezekiah Limb...
