Old Trafford, Manchester - Stevenage Borough today triumphed in the League Two play off final against Torquay United courtesy of a one-nil victory, leaving the Torquay United fans in tears on the Stretford End.

In the real match of the day, played out before a modest yet hugely high spirited crowd, the single first half goal, a cracking strike from Mousinho, was enough to see the Stevenage men safely past the winning post.

Many Torquay United fans were left in tears at the final whistle - and well they might have been. It's a long drive back to Torquay from Manchester, especially when you've just seen your team lose its most vital fixture of the season.

So, it's back to the grindstone for the Torquay lads next season, and the chance to do it all over again. Their newly promoted opponents are said to be looking forward to a long holiday, and trips to such glamorous destinations as Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United next season.

Stevenage are apparently relishing the chance to mix it with the big time Charlies in League One, and well they might. This play off showcase was played in the true spirit of the game, with gamesmanship at a minimum, unlike those poncey gets in the Premiership who go down like they've been poleaxed in the gentlest of breezes.

"All that hard work all season has paid off," the Stevenage boss crowed. "Especially the way we grafted against Accrington Stanley."

Most of the staff at Old Trafford are hoping the Stevenage fans won't milk the celebrations, because they want to lock up and get home to watch the Champions League final on the box.

More as we get it.
