image for Fergie's Concerns Over Hargreaves Future

Man Utd boss Sir Alex Ferguson admits he doesn't know what the future holds for injury prone midfielder Owen Hargreaves.

The £17 million signing from Bayern Munich, who has managed only 39 appearances for the Old Trafford club since 2007, suffered a shoulder injury 2 weeks ago and that will keep him out of action for the rest of the season.

Sir Alex bemoaned the unlucky Hargreaves' situation yesterday at the weekly press conference :

"Its so long since Owen had a good run of appearances, I have grave doubts about him being able to adjust to the modern game.

Its much quicker and pacier than when he played and he'd be struggling to keep up".

Fergie also expressed concerns that he couldn't adapt to the team formations that have become popular in the intervening period, citing the diamond as being a potentially difficult formation for him to adjust to, having been used to the more traditional 4-4-2 and 4-3-3 set ups.

"I suspect Owen might feel like a fish out of water if he ever puts his boots back on for a competitive match. Being so out of touch with the modern game would affect his chances of ever becoming a pundit as well".
