image for Premiership Striker Saha In Car Crash

Everton's top scorer Louis Saha has emerged unscathed from a car crash in the Cheshire countryside.

The accident happened in Wilmslow on the A538 on Sunday night when the Frenchman's Ferrari left the road and collided with a fence.

Coincidentally, the incident happened in the identical place where Cristiano Ronaldo had a similar crash in 2009 when he was still on Man Utd's books.

Bizarrely, there was no other vehicle involved in either incident and there are no bends on this stretch of the A538.

The only thing unusual about this section of the road is that a council employee has drawn a big, rectangular box in white chalk across the carriageway.

Sports psychologist Dr Louis Watts believes he may have worked out an explanation :

"Both drivers are top class sportsmen who play at the highest level in their respective leagues.

"They are well conditioned, super competitive individuals who are trained to win at all costs.

"I believe that Messrs Saha and Ronaldo were quite at ease driving along a country road with not a care in the world.

"They were on their own, no other vehicles in the vicinity.

"But, as soon as they came upon the white, rectangular box, their training instinctively kicked in and they both hit the deck, causing them to lose control of their vehicles.

"They should not be punished for their weaknesses.

"They are as much victims as they are offenders".
