image for Blatter tops Forbes Rich List
Sepp Blatter, such a generous soul.

There was shock yesterday as Forbes announced that Sepp Blatter, the FIFA president, had topped the Forbes Rich List, rising from 51st to 1st overnight.

Sepp Blatter, speaking from his 6-star hotel in Russia yesterday, said that he was ecstatic about the news.

'It's a great feeling to be the richest man on the planet, and I thank my friends across the world for allowing this for happen.'

Rumour has already started as to why Sepp has had his sudden rise to fortune, with internet forums commenting on the fact that his money-rush happened just days after the 2018/2022 World Cup Bid Announcement. However Sepp's PA was unable to provide an answer to The Spoof before we went to press earlier today.

Shortly after Forbes' announcement, Qatar released a statement saying that they had received $40bn of aid from the IMF. Roman Abramovich is also understood to be 'deeply concerned' about the state of Millhouse LLC, his investment company.

FIFA Executive Committee members were tight-lipped yesterday, leading to suspicion from losing bid teams that Blatter's money had come from illegitimate sources related to football. After analysing recent business stories, however, The Spoof could not find any evidence of wrongdoing.
