Wales, England - After a fairly good day on the links for Tiger Woods, you would think that he and Phil Mickelson would be able to put behind differences and maybe even enjoy a beer together, but that is apparently not what happened.
"It started out nice enough," said Steve Stricker, Tiger's Partner, but then Tiger got this funny look on his face and started "taunting" Phil, calling him "Mr Jingles". Then Phil stood up and pointed at Tiger, warning him to stop, but Tiger kept right on, "if you say so Mr. Jingles, right away Mr. Jingles. You're looking jolly British today Mr. Jingles."
"Then Phil just snapped and he grabbed a club off of a rack and Tiger took off running and laughing. They must have done 5 laps around the clubhouse, of course Tiger is twice as fast as Phil, so pretty soon he was behind Phil chasing Phil, who still thought he was chasing Tiger!"
We asked Arnold Palmer where the problem began and it dates way back, "The feud apparently goes back years since Tiger became number 1 in the world and Phil has alway trailed Tiger as number 2 or 3 in the world. "Tiger was in a restaurant with Phil and Nicklaus and some others one day and Nicklaus calls Phil, "Mr. Jingles" and Phil takes it all good natured from Jack Nicklaus, because it's "Jack". Jack could call Phil a stupid twit and he'd take it good natured. But Tiger was the new "upstart" then and he made it clear to him, "NEVER call me Mr. Jingles." PERIOD. They haven't gotten on well since."
This episode did have a happy ending according to Steve Stricker, "Mickelson ran out breath completely, so Tiger did final catch him, still laughing loud as ever, and Mickelson apparently caught it and started laughing too, they both fell on the ground started laughing and getting along great."
