The footballing world received a shattering blow this lunchtime when it was revealed that Italy's 2006 World Cup- winning captain, Fabio Cannavaro, had failed a dope test.
The Juventus captain, 36, who is also Italy's most-capped international player, was declared a dope by David Beckham - himself no Einstein - after the Italian made derogatory remarks about the Englishman's proposed return to AC Milan in the January transfer window.
Beckham told anyone who would listen:
"I ain't bin funny or naffink, but eez a dope, that Cannyvare."
Cannavaro is currently on World Cup duty with the national squad who are hoping to qualify for the 2010 competition in South Africa, which is full of dopes.
