You may have heard about several upstart football leagues. The United Football League, All American Football League, and the United States Football League are all planning to start within the next 13 months, with some of the leagues stating they would like to be some sort of feeder system to the NFL.
There is one league, however, that says they will take the NFL by the horns. The Super Duper Football League plans to begin in 2011.
"NFL players will come HERE to play football," SDFL founder and commissioner Steve Scruples said at a press conference about the league's announcement. "We will only have NFL talent, and with a few exceptions, you must have been good in the NFL to play in this league, as we will be drafting NFL players. Just as the best college players go on to the NFL, the best NFL players will come to this league."
"Imagine your starting offense consisting of Peyton Manning, Ladainian Tomlinson, Reggie Bush, Larry Fitzgerald and Randy Moss. Our teams will have that kind of talent."
The SDFL will have teams in major international markets without NFL such as Los Angeles, Toronto, and Mexico City. It will hold its inaugural draft after the end of the 2010 NFL season.
