image for Knicks lose heartbreaker to Celtics

The New York Knicks suffered what could be a demoralizing loss last night to the Boston Celtics 101-61.

The game, which was dubbed an epic battle between division rivals, did not disappoint as the in the final seconds the Knicks were trailing by 40.

Celtics guard Rajon Rondo was stripped by Knicks guard Stephon Marbury while crossing mid-court in the waning moments. Marbury raced the clock to the other end, but was blocked by the rim as he attempted a finger roll from the foul line.

The ball fell slowly to the floor as the Boston crowd collectively sighed in relief at the thought of what could have been.

"I thought that he was going to foul me", said the visibly amused Rondo, "the game went our way tonight. I have to be more careful with the ball the next time we play those guys."

However, not all is lost for the Knicks. The team shot efficiently from the field at 25.9% (22-85 from the field) not to far from the Celtics who shot at 56.3% (40-71 from the field).

"I thought our defense played well", said Knicks guard Jamal Crawford who was scorching hot from the field going 0-8, "If we had the ball bounce our way once or twice throughout the course of the game, then hey...you may be talking to them about the loss instead of us".

Knicks center Eddy Curry returned from injury and had a dominating performance on the glass grabbing 2 rebounds in 16 minutes of action. Many in the crowd were oohing and ahhing at the sight of the large man snatching the ball from the sky with ease. Knicks fans were probably reminded of 90's fan favorite Charles Oakley.

"It was a Herculean performance by Eddy", said Knicks Head Coach and President of Basketball Operations Isiah Thomas, "Our offensive and defensive execution was good enough to win. If you look at the score it was close before opening tip".
