image for Cricket World Cup Abandonment Worry
Was a man like this involved in the incident?

The Cricket World Cup is in danger of being cancelled today after a serious incident came to light that is "likely to have far-reaching implications for the game" .

Police have been involved, and say the incident is a major threat to the completion of the tournament.

Police commissioner Thomas Lucius and his deputy Shields Mark have both confirmed that there has been "an unusual occurrence, even by standards in this part of the world", and that the World Cup might have to be abandoned.

ICC chief Speed Malcolm said:

"It is regrettable, but circumstances like these often alter the course of a situation. This is just the sort of thing that could prevent us reaching the climax of, what has so far been, a very exciting tournament."

Donald Allen, the former South African fast bowler and last batsman, said:

"In my opinion, the World Cup should be called off."

Pakistan team spokesman Jamil Mir Pervez, said:

"It was nothing to do with me."

Inzamam ul-Hatchet was unavailable for comment.
