image for Major League Baseball Will Begin Using Red Baseballs In 2014
MLB will be doing away with the standard white baseballs by the start of the 2014 season.

NEW YORK CITY - Word coming from the office of MLB Commissioner Bud Selig is that MLB will be testing out a red baseball prior to the opening of the 2014 baseball season.

The commissioner said that he got the idea from China where professional baseball teams have been playing with red balls for two years.

Selig revealed that he actually witnessed a game in Shanghai earlier this year and he was surprised at how amazingly well the red baseballs performed.

He noted that they are much easier to see by the batter as well as by the fielders.

The commissioner pointed out that the stitches are also red so there is nothing to offer an annoying contrast.

SIDENOTE: Commissioner Selig stated that the red baseballs will be much cheaper in cost than the standard white baseballs due to the fact that they will be manufactured in a baseball-making factory in Tijuana, Mexico.
