The New England Patriots have now met the enemy-and they invited the antagonists for a tea party this week.

Yes, the New Orleans Saints have come north to sample the hospitality of Foxboro in the dog days of August.

The two teams will hold two days of joint practices, and then play a preseason game against each other.

Owing to the scandalous past of each Super Bowl winning team, there are many cynics looking at Thursday's game as the Scandal Bowl.

Drew Brees last season took the yardage record for a quarterback by padding his statistics in the final regular game to beat Tom Brady's leading total.

If hard feelings were evident, we couldn't see them. Tom and Drew hugged warmly (after all it is mid-summer) and sat down in dripping uniforms to chitchat after practice.

To prove the dog days were upon them, Tom brought his pet dog to the practice and introduced him to Brees.

This love fest was in stark contrast to the shenanigans occurring at the Jets practice on the Jersey shore. For the second day in a row the green and white uniforms did battle with the guys in green and white uniforms.

If they wanted to imitate the Patriots who engaged in fisticuffs last week, the Jets did it up big, involving twenty players and spilling the pulled punches into a crowd of fans.

Rex Ryan was so perturbed by the chaos in camp that he made his players run laps as penance. And, we thought Rex had invented the Chaos Theory.

Whether the contrasts in practice will be proof of some on field performance when the leaves turn red and gold, only time will tell.

Football expert and poet Robert Frost once stated that nothing gold can stay.
