Triumph, Then Tears

Houston TX--NASA scientists were elated today when the Martian Phoenix Lander discovered the first extraterrestrial life. Elation turned to tears as moments later the Martian probe accidentally crushed the first specimen to death.

The probe landed at the Martian north pole on Sunday and dug itself into the cold ground. As soon as it landed, the probe spotted a green creature that looked like a leprechaun on the surface of the Red Planet. The elfin Martian looked almost human as it smiled into the camera. All eyes at NASA stared in disbelief as the little humanoid mouthed out the words 'welcome' and 'let's be friends'. It was beyond scientists wildest dreams!

Seconds later the Martian probe raised its digging arm and accidentally smashed the little Martian's head open and it died. The loss to science and the damage it caused are incalculable. NASA scientist sat at their desks and openly wept. The probe's camera went suddenly blank a minute after the death.

In a related story, NASA reports the loss of all data coming from the Mars Orbital Explorer. The two martian robot cars, Opportunity and Endeavor also suddenly stopped working. Late reports from the Hubble Telescope report curious-looking missile shaped objects heading to Earth from Mars.

Make Fish's day - give this story five thumbs-up (there's no need to register, the thumbs are just down there!)
