image for Global Warming Linked To Industry/Technology - North Korea
Non-diplomatic means

A group of North Korean scientists trying to assemble that country's first nuclear bomb, has discovered what it says is a link between industry and technology, and Global Warming, and has laid the blame squarely at the door of the US.

The group, based in a government research laboratory at the Bom Yu Soon Military Institute 100 miles north of the capital Pyongyang, found that heavy industry, transport and gadgets such as cars, mobile phones, electric toothbrushes and dishwashers, were responsible for a break up of the Earth's ozone layer.

The North Korean head of state, Kim Jong-il, has accused the West, and the US in particular, of wasting the planet's resources and of bringing the world to "the verge of self-destruction", and has vowed to "address the situation soon".

North Korea is a country shrouded in secrecy, where the strict authoritarian regime forbids any kind of contact between people that has not already been authorised by the government. Even husbands and wives are banned from talking to each other.

Little else is known about the state, aside from the fact that most people who live there are called Kim. This latest news was 'smuggled out' of the country by Chinese traders dealing in iPods.

Scientists in the US have remained tight-lipped about the allegations, and are considering the possibilities that they may be accurate.

President George W. Bush reacted angrily to the dictator's claims, saying:

"Mobilise the men!"
