image for On a diet but like food? There's an app for that
CEO Ellie James admits to having eaten several iPhones running iFlavour with the flavour Chocolate downloaded

App World! editor, Max Buck has known for some time that he's had to lose weight.

"I've gained a few pounds since my divorce," he said. "It's mainly because I only ever eat at Cheeze Wheeze now."

Fortunately, help is at hand in the form of a new applelet from Home James Apps: iFlavour. This new app uses haptics to vibrate the iPhone screen at the exact frequency required to fool the taste buds into tasting any flavour.

"Individual flavours can be downloaded for a small charge," said Buck. "I've downloaded the Cheeze Wheeze Maximum Burger flavour as well as pistachio ice-cream. Those are my two favourite flavours."

With the app loaded, users simply activate the desired flavour and lick the screen.

"To be honest," said Buck. "I was dubious about this app. I couldn't see how they could get the complex flavours of cheese, fat, beef and onions all combined into the smooth flavour that is pistachio ice-cream. But by jingo, they did. It tastes heavenly."

The app has emerged from work to make the second version of the G-Spot locator trainer app (iGSP) more realistic by adding a flavour to the textures the app already produces. However, market research with the app discovered that people did not like the taste.

"Apparently," said Ellie James, CEO of Home James apps, "making iGSP taste like the real thing puts people off the real thing. We've abandoned that line of research. I like the real thing."

There has been one surprise adopter of the new iFlavour app.

"Heston Blumenthal has said that he wants to use our new app in his latest dish," said James. "He will be making an iPhone Ice Cream Sandwich."
