image for Vegans suggest how to feed the world
The future according to vegans

The Vegan Organisation against Meat (VOM) have suggested that if everyone in the world gave up meat, then there would be enough room on the planet to grow food for an extra 3 billion people.

VOM whine that it takes 10 square metres of farmland to provide enough food for a particularly fussy vegan, but it takes many times as much land to grow food to feed the animals that normal people eat.

They have calculated that at the current rate of meat consumption globally, the maximum population which could be supported is 7 billion. However, if everyone became vegan, then a population of 10 billion could be supported.

But that is not all. VOM's leader, Herbert Parsnip, says that it could be possible to feed as many as 20 billion people on Earth.

"If we all live off nothing but bread and water, and live in prison-like conditions, there should be no problem to feed so many. And wouldn't it be great to try to cram as many people on Earth as we can manage."
