image for 'Boomerang Lunch Days' introduced into schools Boomerang lunch - thankfully a thing of the past where I work....

This is NOT a Spoof but I hope it gets published.

Recently the 'Boomerang Lunch Days' were introduced at the school in which I teach. Friday's were 'Boomerang Lunch Days'.

The idea came via an idea from Eco-clubs which are popping up in schools all over the place.

Students were asked to bring in lunches and snacks without wrappers, i.e. in plastic containers which could then be taken home, leaving much less 'garbage' in the classroom garbage cans. The garbage cans were removed from classrooms during 'nutrition breaks'.

It wasn't very successful, needless to say.

I pointed out to our Eco-teacher that we were in fact, by encouraging this, causing our Carbon Footprints to be much larger because:

a) the wrappers from food would be in the garbage cans at homes if they weren't in the garbage cans at school....so we hadn't changed the amount of garbage....just it's location.

b) the plastic and/or metal containers taken home would need to be washed thereby using more water and dish detergent -unecessarily using our precious water resource (many of our families are using water wells or have water delivered as they are not connected to city 'lines') and putting more stress on the sewerage systems (or in the cases of most families - their septic tanks). and more stress on the parents......by giving them them extra work washing out conainters, not to mention the extra work of removing food from wrappers and PUTTING it into containers.....

Result: No more Boomerang Lunches in OUR school.

The story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
