image for Lunch at the White House

The White House, January 7, 2009

Dear Mom, I have been in the US Navy for 11 months and was hoping to go to sea on an Aircraft Carrier after boot camp. However, I was assigned as a mess steward to the White House kitchen in Washington DC.

Things have been pretty boring around here until today. President Bush hosted a luncheon for all of the living ex-presidents and the new president elect. The White House Executive Chef was so agitated at not being notified about the luncheon, she threatened to send out to McDonalds for a bunch of Big Macs, lots of large fries, diet cokes and to KFC for a bucket of chicken.

After a lot of frantic raiding of pantries, looking in food storage bins and stuffing coins into vending machines an edible lunch was put on the table. Mom, let me tell you what each of the chief executives had for lunch.

President James Earl Carter (39) had a Peanut Soufflé and a diet Dr. Pepper.

President George H W Bush (41) had a Pork Rind Casserole and a Moxie.

President William Jefferson Clinton (42) had the Peach Poisson with white water.

President George W Bush (43) had a bowl of Texas Chili and a grape Nehi.

President Elect Barrack H Obama (44) had a Chicago style pizza and a Busch Lite.

I will write you next month about the new White House menu, if I don't get reassigned, as I hear through the grapevine that the incoming president likes chili (favorite food), barbecued chicken, pizza, Caribbean food and Mexican fare.

Love,
Plumbers Mate Second Class,
Joe Wurzelbacher
