image for Barry Goldwater Rolls Over George & Alberto explain why the directive doesn't really mean what it says.

I rise today to discuss the National Security and Homeland Security Presidential Directive , signed on May 9, 2007 which declares that in the event of a "catastrophic event", George W. Bush can become what is best described as "a dictator". I refer you to the speach I made in 1964 at the Republican National nominating convention:

"Those who seek absolute power, even though they seek it to do what they regard as good, are demanding the right to enforce their own version of heaven on earth. And let me remind you, they are the very ones who always create the most hellish tyrannies.

Absolute power does corrupt, and those who seek it must be suspect and must be opposed. Their mistaken course stems from false notions of equality, ladies and gentlemen. Equality, rightly understood, as our founding fathers understood it, leads to liberty and to the emancipation of creative differences. Wrongly understood, as it has been so tragically in our time, it leads first to conformity and then to despotism.

Fellow Republicans, it is the cause of Republicanism to resist concentrations of power, private or public, which enforce such conformity and inflict such despotism. It is the cause of Republicanism to ensure that power remains in the hands of the people. And, so help us God, that is exactly what a Republican president will do with the help of a Republican Congress."

We are the party of peace. We avoid foreign entanglements. We defend the constitution of the United States of America. We defend individual freedom. We believe in a strong defense not offense. Doesn't anybody in the Republican party remember these values. Isn't there anyone among you who will speak up. Ronnie Reagen come over here. Ronnie where are all the Republicans. What happened to our beloved party? What? You think there is still one who remembers. One who still believes in the Constitution. What's his name? Tell me Ronnie what's his name? What? Oh, I know him. The young fellow from Pittsburgh. I think he served in the Airforce as a flight doctor at the same time as my son, Barry Jr. His name is Paul, Ron Paul. Ron Paul 2008

The story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
