Well thanks for joining me again as the first day is up and running - and in the words of cuddly Tony Blackburn off the radio (and from the jungle) 'sen-sational!'

Defending Champ John Higgins cued off the tournament this morning and grafted his way to a 5-4 lead over Liang Wenbo - who is no relation to Subo (Susan Boyle) or Wagbo - that guy from Harry Hills TV Burp. The match finishes Saturday night.

The real excitement came in the afternoon session between Stephen Hendry and Stuart Bingham. Stephen knocked in the first century of the day in the second frame, exactly 100, and as if that wasn't enough scored a MAXIMUM break of 147 in the seventh frame - ending the session 7-1 ahead.

Hendry is at the Crucible for the 26th successive year - he started off in short pants with a spotty face - and he hasn't changed much - except for the fact he had to qualify this year as he dropped out of the Top 16 seeds in February.
