The interminable procession of 'Talent shows' like X-Factor, Britain's Got Talent and Pop Star to Opera Star have been filling up our screens with the same tedious offerings for the last, seemingly, twenty five years.
And now a new series of "So you think you can dance?" is due to be broadcast in the next fortnight.
But, brilliantly, producers have completely re-written the script to provide us with a show which is, essentially, a comedy.
Show Producer Mike Iddshateme told us, "The old format had become too mundane. We wanted to introduce some new ways to stimulate our audience."
Consequently, top of the list of 'stars' will be scientist and brainbox Stephen Hawking. "A real coup," Mike Iddshateme asserts, "and in answer to the question the show asks, the answer will be "No, Stephen, no you can't! It'll be a laugh!"
Other contestants will include blind M.P. David Blunkett, who will attempt to respond to a series of whistles, Katie (Jordan) Price who is set to be partnered with her own breasts, and an hologram of Harold 'Dr. Death' Shipman, who has been cavorting with a series of crippled pensioners.
The BBC have asserted that this is the kind of entertainment that license-payers have been calling for and, as a result, shows now in the pipe-line also include "Cannibalised Celebrities in The Jungle" and "Wimbledon - Another British Fiasco".
