Chris Moyles, the self-proclaimed 'smelly fat bloke of Radio 1', broke the record for the amount of time broadcasting a Radio 1 show along with his sidekick "Comedy" Dave Vitty.
The prankish pair broadcast for 52 hours, smashing the previous record of 37 hours held by DJ Simon Mayo, but falling well short of the world record set at an incredible 183 hours!
The duo locked and barricaded themselves into the Radio 1 studio for 52 hours acting against orders. The media had been initially kept in the dark regarding the event being put on the shelf by BBC bosses due to Moyles' outrageous pay demands.
The event raised approximately £2.4m in donations from listeners of the show in support of Comic Relief. However, independent facilitators have announced that they have only just managed to break even.
Money mad Moyles demanded £1m for every 24 hours on air with greedy colleague, Vitty, requesting an hourly pay rise to an extortionate £6.53!!!
One of the event's facilitators was happy just to cover the costs and stated -
"With the cost of keeping fatty in Red Bull, Ginster's Pasties and pickled onion Monster Munch for over 2 days, it was extremely lucky that we didn't end up with an embarrassingly large loss!"
After breaking the record, Chris Moyles said -
"It's brilliant! It's great that I've broken the record. They've even given me a certificate.
"It's great that I've done it and, more importantly, that I've made so much money."
Nice one Chris!
