image for American Idol - Now Kara DioGuardi Gets The Chop - Cheryl Cole To Step Up?
Too Many Judges Spoil The Hoff

Hollywood - Huge shake up over at American Idol as it was announced that judge, Kara DioGuardi has been axed - this coming right on the back of the earlier announcement that Ellen DeGeneres was terminated also.

Industry insiders are saying that the show is in desperate need of an overhaul, and that having four judges was simply making the vehicle clunky. It appears that the suits think that a three-judge system would lead to a smoother performance.

Interestingly, Brit malaria victim Cheryl Cole touched down in LA today with her 'friend' 'Dancing' Derek Hough, which has led to fevered speculation that the cockney nightingale is being lined up as a replacement judge.

Although Cole's people hotly deny this, saying that she's in town solely to rest up and recuperate.

Cole isn't the only celeb to find herself in the Idol frame, with fellow Brits Elton John and John Lydon also being seen as candidates. However, this seems unlikely, as Sir Elton is better known these days for being remarkably tetchy, and Lydon - the former Sex Pistols front man - reported to be volatile and unpredictable.

In the US, Alice Cooper has said that he wouldn't touch the job with a bargepole, Iggy Pop simply snorted at the suggestion, and Nicole Sherzinger was generally regarded as being 'difficult to work with' by a former Pussycat Dolls roadie.

David Hasselhoff - of Knight Rider and Baywatch, aka The Hoff, was a popular on-line replacement among fans, but he has apparently ruled himself out because there were too many judges on the show anyway, even following the recent cuts.

However Donny and Marie Osmond have not been totally ruled out as replacements, with insiders saying that their schmaltzy on-screen chemistry could be just what the doctor ordered.

Cheryl Cole is 5'3" despite the malaria incident.

Make Skoob1999's day - give this story five thumbs-up (there's no need to register, the thumbs are just down there!)
