image for Polanski is Back with the 'Hummus Factor'
Intrigue leads stars to South of France.

The latest thriller extravaganza is an endie film, The 'Hummus Factor', that is well financed, written and directed by none other than Roman Polanski. There is some of Chinatown in this movie, but it is all new with thrills, all foreign setting, and a Rubik cube like twisted ending.

The story begins in Beruit. The Habib Brothers Hummas Emporium in central Beirut has run out of Chick Peas and their shelves are empty. Their primary supplier, Joe Mustafa of Joes Beans, has died and due to gambling debt, archrival and deadly enemy, the Fatima Garbanzo Supply gang has taken over. Fatima has consolidated Hummus power and all suppliers are beholden or terrified of them.

Fadi and Zuhar Jaffrey, grandsons of Solman Jaffrey Hummus Emporium founder, are off in America attending UCLA while their father Bob is running the business. Bob, back in Beruit, has contacted his sons, that he calls the 'brilliant brothers', to come back to Beruit and help out with the dying business.

Meanwhile the patriarch of Fatima, Munawar Fatima, is in the South of France enjoying wine and truffles at his hideout/mansion. Interchangeable twin brothers Fadi and Zuhar decide that the best way to combat the Hummus terror, that is Fatima, is to go to France and face off with Munawar. Only the brothers don't know where exactly in France to find Munawar so first stop is Beruit.

Somehow the brothers travel through Israel, Gaza, and then Jordan, chasing intrigue before arriving in France. Then they follow Munawar to Italy where he has a backup hideout/mansion. Like Chinatown there are layers and layers of intrigue,

Nonstop action continues and the suspense grows as the viewer learns the diabolical plans of Munawar are to take over worldwide chickpea production and distribution.

Thumbs up, four stars. One hundred fifty minutes.
