Someone Who Doesn't Even Remotely Resemble The Edge

U2 frontman and tireless campaigner for lost causes, Bono, today announced that he plans to make the theme tune from 60's US comedy show 'The Beverley Hillbillies' into a stadium anthem.

"I watched reruns of the show as a kid and I loved it," Bono told us. "Buddy Ebson was just so dry, Irene Ryan was fantastic as Granny - just like me own owld nan, and Donna Douglas was just beautiful as Ellie May. Not sure about Miss Hathaway from the bank though, Mr Drysdale's PA. Sure she was nice enough as a person, but looks wise she wasn't up to much."

Bono, you're straying off topic, we cautioned.

"So I am. Anyway, we wanted to pay tribute to the Clampetts, and what better way than to have the theme tune belted out as a stadium anthem by 100,000 voices?"

Fair point. Some difficulties of a technical nature surfaced with the concept, as the original theme was played by a pair of banjo pluckers named Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs. Nary an electric guitar or a drum kit to be seen.

"No problem," The Edge told us. "I can hit the riff to perfection, and when Bono starts caterwauling, the audience will sing along. Trust me."

We asked U2 if they planned on reviving any other TV theme tunes as stadium anthems?

"We looked at a few," Bono told us. "'I Could Be So Good For You' from 'Minder' was a strong contender, as was the theme from 'Only Fools And Horses' but for now we'll stick with The Beverley Hillbillies and see how it works out."

Rival stadium rocker Bruce Springsteen announced later that the E Street Band were rehearsing a reworking of the theme from 'Gilligan's Island.'

More TV nostalgia as we get it.
