In an ironic twist, actor Anthony Perkins was killed by an unknown assailant last night while showering. Prematurely reported as dying from AIDS in the early 90's, Perkins recently emerged from oblivion and made the rounds at the big studios hunting for a meaningful role as an Alzheimer's patient.
In a magazine interview last month he lamented his lost years and reported that he had never gotten over being typecast by Hollywood as "that Psycho."
"Other actors can be rehabilitated," he said. "Look at Micky Rourke, John Travolta--the list is endless. I would like to follow in George Burns footsteps, of course, because I am so frigging old, but I would settle for one of those movies where the old guy gets the young chick and then hacks her to death because, because that's just the way he is. . .but I don't want to do any crazy stuff."
Police are puzzled by several aspects of the case, including the disappearance of Mr. Perkins mother, with whom he was living at the time of his death.
