The artist known as a squiggle is giving his latest album away on the front cover of a Sunday newspaper, it has been revealed. Music industry bosses were not surprised by the move.

"Well, he's having to give it away this time because it's full of so much crap, he couldn't possibly sell it." An insider told us. "Actually, when you think about it, it's a £1.40 Prince album with a free newspaper stuck to the back of it."

The music industry is said to be "annoyed" that Prince has shown that albums can be produced and sold for less than £1 plus the price of a newspaper, given that they have been charging £13 upwards for their product for many years. The insider frothed, "It's just not on. Can he not see that he's exposing the rip-off price cartel we've been operating? Something ought to be done about the pirates that are killing the industry off. That's the main thing. The pirates and the internet."

The Mail On Sunday stuck to their decision to keep putting music on the newspaper cover. A reporter told us, "When we put Tubular Bells on the front of the paper, sales were up 30%, and it showed that people prefer to pay £1.40 for an album, rather than the £24.99 that it was in HMV at the time. We'll keep doing it until they get the message."

Prince was not available for comment, because he's too short, hasn't got a proper name, his voice is all squeaky, and his music is crap anyway.
