Channel five have really taken things too far this time when they revealed they will be taking on Australian family soap, Neighbours after its axe from BBC one, but only because they have persuaded neighbours bosses to make the show a little bit, in their words 'spicier'.
Phillip Hard from channel five's broadcasting department revealed: "Everybody loves neighbours, but we here at channel five all agreed that for the money it is charging to air we might as well make the show a little bit more interesting. Neighbours have got some pretty foxy women, from Sky Mangle to Susan Kennedy, so we might as well get them to act out some raunchy bedroom scenes on each other. Let's face it, the only reason people tune into channel five really is to pick up on some action."
A Neighbours spokeswoman, Lucy Slither, added: "At first obviously we thought the idea was ludicrous. But after a lot of research in Australia, we discovered that the majority of the show's watchers over here were actually quite interested in the idea. Many were interested in a possible exploration of a gay relationship between Harold and Lou. There was also a lot of interest in Karl and Susan Kennedy having a love in with new blond bombshell Pepper Steiger. We are not, however, bringing back Bouncer the dog - despite the massive amount of requests we have received."
Channel five's new revelation is expected to bring a great deal of attention from television watchdogs. However, channel five are happy in the belief that the decision will generate four times more viewers than when it was on the beeb.
