image for OJ Simpson to Host Murderer Series After Book and TV Interview Plan Dropped
Deadly weapon - lethal in the wrong hands

NEW YORK (AP) - After Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. abandoned plans on Monday to publish a book and air a two-part interview with OJ Simpson, it is rumored that Simpson will instead host a 20-part Fox TV series examining the careers of "some of the world's most successful and notorious murderers."

We are told that Simpson has agreed to host the TV series to allow himself to keep the $3.5 million he had already been paid for his ghost-written book.

"The murderer series will look at the careers of Jack the Ripper, Attila the Hun, Adolph Hitler, OJ Simpson, and many of the world's greatest murderers," Murdoch indicated in a statement.

The interview and the book were both to be titled "If I Did It" and had been promoted as revealing how the former football star might have killed his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Lyle Goldman, if he had done so.

The project was in an effort to bolster Fox's flagging ratings, and to make a cheap and fast buck, yet Fox affiliate television stations and advertisers (who actually have a conscience) unanimously refused to support the TV interview, thereby prompting its demise.

The decision to cancel the Simpson book and interview has followed nearly a week of outrage. The incendiary book was printed by ReganBooks which is an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers which, along with the Fox network, are owned by Murdoch's News Corp. The book is now being pulped.

Simpson was acquitted of the slayings in the criminal trial of 1995, but in a civil case filed by the Goldman and Brown families, the jury found Simpson guilty and declared he was responsible.
