image for 'R' for Rubbish rating as Weinstein's film Philomena fails the G-Spot test
A big thumbs-down from movieland censors

Hollywood - US film censors have slapped a great big 'R' rating on Harvey Weinstein's Irish-Catlick adoption pot-boiler starring Dame Judi Dench and Steve Coogan.

The restricted rating means under-17s can only watch the movie 'Philomena' if a] they have a strong stomach and/or b] if they are accompanied by a parent or guardian with a similarly robust disposition.

Announcing the classification a censor from the US Classification and Ratings Administration said a variety of ratings is in use to warn the public about what to expect.

"Uh, we start with 'A' for average," Rudi Boogleheimer explained, "with 'B' for boring, 'C' for cool, etc. By the time you get to 'R' it's gotta be rubbish."

A Weinstein Studios spokesperson replied that they'd be launching a vigorous appeal for reinstatement of the preferred 'G' for groovy rating.

The Brit Stephen Frears drama is scheduled for premiere at Thanksgiving.
