Harry Potter author JK Rowling has announced details of her new book, which is intended for an older audience than her famous work. She has said that she doesn't want to be defined by Harry Potter, which is why she has released a new book with the headline on the jacket "from the writer of Harry Potter".
The new work is about a man called Terry Mason, who lives a boring life in the suburbs of Dorking until he begins an evening course at a mysterious community college which can only be accessed by train. At the classes, he learns about car maintenance from the benevolent head mechanic Albert Mumble, while also learning tricks from the obese janitor Whoregone.
Terry makes friends with a bald loser and a forthright young woman, and together they learn how to fix cars, while trying to avoid the dark arts of cut-and-shut, as espoused by the evil teacher Mr Mortivold.
Rowling is convinced that adults will love the new work, and possibly younger readers will enjoy it too. So convinced is she of its success that she has already "well-developed plans" for six sequels.
