image for Barclays Bank In Bonkers Protest
Money. From a bank. Possibly Barclays.

A couple mounting a protest outside a high street bank claim that the British public is being misled by TV advertising.

Ken and Liz Bonkers began their protest after a visit to their local Barclay's with an inquiry about the Barclaycard contactless ad that features a man going to work on a roller coaster.

Mrs Bonkers said: "Ken has quite a journey to work so when we saw that ad, we thought that would be a good idea.

"We went to Barclays and asked at the inquiry desk how we could get one built from our house to Ken's office. We have plenty of savings - there's my legacy from Auntie Beryl, rest her soul, and Ken had a modest win on the horses last week."

The trouble began when the assistant at the inquiries desk called for the manager.

"Why would she do that?" said Mr Bonkers. "I'll tell you why: only the manager has the power to turn down requests like ours - people who had a small unauthorised overdraft a few years ago!

"He said we couldn't have the rollercoaster, because it wasn't real and that anyway Barclaycard was a different company!

"Don't give me that! It's on that advert with that song by Boston for everyone to see. And if Barclaycard's a different company, how come Barclays always take my monthly card repayments eh? Hah! Tell me that!"

Now Mr and Mrs Bonkers, of Harlesden, north London, are protesting with placards and a loud-hailer outside their branch.

"We're going to stay here for as long as it takes," said Mr Bonkers. "But Liz has got a hospital appointment with her leg on Monday and I can only get one more day off work."
