image for Apple Announces New iPod - Ron Paul Edition
Artist rendition of the Ron Paul iPod on a windy day.

Apple is coming out with yet another variation of its iPod line. Reminiscent of the infamous and highly successful U2 iPod of a few years ago, the new Ron Paul model should appeal to the candidate's legions of fans.

The U2 iPod came in special colors and with included music from the group. Similarly, the Ron Paul iPod is red, white and blue to symbolize patriotism, and it includes tracks of Ron Paul reading various sections of the Constitution.

Based on the iPod Touch, the model comes with 8 GB of memory. A higher end version has 16 GB and adds further tracks such as Ron Paul reading the Declaration of Independence, the Federalist Papers, and even tracks where he sings the Star Spangled Banner and America the Beautiful. Both models have WiFi and have an included shortcut for users to do Google News searches for Ron Paul.

Pricing is higher than regular models, at $399 for the base model and $499 for the loaded one. $50 of the purchase price will be donated to the Ron Paul campaign in the name of the buyer. Apple hopes to capitalize on viral marketing like that used for the candidate's huge November 5th fundraising success.

The Ron Paul iPod was introduced at a press conference where the candidate dressed up as Steve Jobs and talked about the future of the Internet, while Jobs dressed up as Ron Paul and talked about the Constitution. Most of the media did not get the joke and were quite confused. Apple shares were off 3% on the day.
