After a week of sombre contemplation a group of bored Cardinals decided to 'consult the Holy Spirit' and throw an office party before the big vote.
Dozens of Tequila cases later a high jinx mood set in as Papal contenders began letting their hair down and playing all sorts of traditional party games.
'I've got a feeling in my waters that it's a Latin American Cardinal who'll get the job,' an Irish Archbishop told his colleagues as they placed informal bets on the next Pope's ID.
Sure enough the following day rumors were rife that the favorite candidate from South America - one of the church's wildest party animals - had indeed been picked to serve as new Pontiff.
'How on earth did you know that, Paddy?' the USA's Cardinal Egan asked as the news broke.
'Well, Eddie, I had a hunch last night that it would be a Brazilian,' the Irish cleric answered, 'when I saw his image on the Vatican photocopier!'
