The British singer-songwriter has revealed how as a teenager she was turned down to play the lead role of Maria von Trapp in a remake of the 1960s musical The Sound of Music.

Casting directors asked the pretty and highly telegenic North Londoner to do a screen test before running through a couple of the movie's memorable songs.

"I really thought I'd got the role after singing my guts out with My Favorite Things," Adele said, "but they still turned me down.

"Must have been something wrong with my version of How Do You Solve A Problem Like My Rear?"
