As we walked the beach to the starting point for this year's New Wave Biathlon to begin our 3/4 mile ocean swim, I struck up a conversation with another biathlete who, it turned out, had competed with me last year at a triathlon. He described how after the swimming event, he'd put on his running shoes and hopped onto his bicycle, only to discover a terrible pain in his left foot.
The pain continued as he peddled through the miles. Wishing to check his time after about six miles of biking, he noticed that his watch was missing. His foot pain helped him discover where he'd left it--inside his running shoe. By this time we were lined up facing the Atlantic Ocean, waiting for our event to begin. I couldn't help asking my new acquaintance,
"So, did you take the time out to take the time out?"
